Century old New Zealand mullet boat for sale

Niad New Zealand mullet boat for sale

Paul Mullings found this nicely restored sweet little New Zealand mullet boat for sale on an auction website. Made from kauri, it dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, has a centreboard and an overhauled Watermota engine with a feathering prop. The auction ends on the 26th, if you’re down there and in the market for something that’s a small but perfectly formed piece of sailing history…

Thanks Paul!

We’ve also received an update from Fowey boatbuilder Marcus Lewis, who is well known for building Fowey River Class dinghies.

‘Hi Gavin, hope all is well, just thought I would drop you a line with some pics to show what has been going on lately.

‘The two Fowey River Class dinghies are coming on. No. 59 has been timbered out with steamed green oak ribs and the seats and gunnwales are in, and we will soon be fitting the centreplate case. No. 60 is soon to have her mahogany sheer strake fitted (the rest of her planking is spruce), and then she will be timbered out.

‘Also arrived last week was a St Mawes One Design for a few small repairs after being damaged on her moorings in the gales. (See www.stmawesod.org.uk for more information.)

‘There are always one or two of these lovely little boats for sale. They were designed in 1923 and are raced mostly on the River Fal, in and around Falmouth and, obviously, at St Mawes!

‘I’ve also attached an advert [see below Ed]. This is an opportunity for someone to pick up a classic boat for very little – a Kings Cruiser. A friend of mine has owned this boat for quite a few years, and initially did a considerable amount of work, used her for a few years, but then laid her up, and now has to get rid of her. She probably needs quite of bit of work again now, but is worth an offer!

‘Thanks

‘Marcus’

Lovely 1961 clinker-built Norwegian motor-sailer for sale in Kent

[ad name=”intheboatshed-post”]

Nissa

THIS BOAT IS NOW SOLD

My friend Alan Thorne is selling his Norwegian motor sailer named Nissa. Photos of her can be found here: http://www.created4life.org/troll33.html

She was built in 1961 and is maintained to a high standard. She has a long keel, 3ft 6in draft and 9ft 6in beam, on an overall length of 33ft. With a clinker hull constructed with mahogany planks fastened with copper roves and nails to oak frames, she’s designed to be a safe, easy-to-sail yacht with attractive accommodation – one could easily live aboard her. She has two berths in the forward cabin, one cosy double and one short single in the main cabin.

Alan has enjoyed several sailing trips on the East Coast of England, and Nissa appears in Classic Boat magazine (Novemberissue, page 7) as part of last year’s Thames Festival Regatta at St Katharine’s Dock, London. Nissa also won the Otterham Cup for classic Bermudan yachts in the 2009 Swale Match.

Engine-wise, she has a Westerbeke 35hp 4 cylinder diesel engine and a 45-gallon stainless steel diesel tank, and she also has the usual selection of instruments and equipment. The latest survey was in Nov 2007, and its recommendations were carried out in 2008 and 2009.

Nissa is lying a berth in Oare Creek, Faversham, Kent, and is priced at £16,500 To view or sail her, call Alan on tel 07865091155.
