A second St Ayles launch on Loch Broom

The second of Loch Broom’s St Ayles skiffs,  has been launched – her splash took place just a day after the launch of Ulla, the area’s first boat to be completed as part of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Project. Congratulations folks – and thanks once again to Chris Perkins for the photos!

Named Coigach Lass, the new boat makes a total of three of the SCRP rowing skiffs on the water. Naturally Ulla’s crew brought their boat over, which resulted in the first ever meeting – and brief race – between two St Ayles skiffs. Chris Perkins has written to say that the St Ayles skiff Ulla is launched and that a good selection of photos of the big day can be seen at the Ullapool Coastal Rowing website. Apparently the Viking steerboard works well.

He’ll be at the splash of another St Ayles skiff, Coigach Lass, today so hopefully we’ll have still more lovely photos soon.

Two of the most important boat shows featuring wooden boats are coming up – but for some reason this year I don’t seem to be hearing much about them from anyone.

The shows in question are the Beale Park Thames Boat Show from the 4th to 6th June  near Pangbourne on the River Thames (click here for information), and the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival on the 26th-27th June at Portsoy (click here for more information).

You exhibitors out there, why don’t you get in touch and tell me what you’re going to be showing and why you’re so proud of them, and why people should go along and see your stuff – and throw in a couple of photos while you’re at it? There’s still time, it’s very easy, I can be reached at gmatkin@gmail.com, and this site gets 800+ interested visitors a day. It should be a no-brainer…
