Thames Traditional Boat Rally in photos

TTBR

I won’t be able to make the Thames Traditional Boat Rally this weekend but I’d like to make it one day – and no doubt Julie would love what looks like a rather genteel event.

In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying this fabulous gallery of photos. I recommend you just hit the ‘play’ button at the top right of the page and watch the boats go by for a few minutes.

Dick Wynne recently took his boat Constance built to Albert Strange’s Wenda design to the races, where her slippery form, big rig and heavy keel turned out to be very helpful to her skipper.

Dick has posted an entertaining account of his trip on the Albert Strange Association website.

PS Dick directed me to further photos of Constance – two appear on this page at Sue and Michael Feather’s website (she’s the doubtle ender with the Farrow+Ball style green paint) and there are more on Dick’s Flickr pages.

Lessons from America

Paul Austin of Dallas, Texas, has written an essay for Duckworksmagazine shooting down British theories about way America won, and draws two conclusions from her career. The first concerns her lines and the second the way her subsequent owners failed to care for it.
