Here’s another gallery of Matt Atkin’s photos of traditional craft from around the world. Today’s photos of fishing boats come from Vietnam, somewhere a little north of Saigon.
My brothers commented that in taking them he had a strong feeling they were rather special, and that he was photographing a diminishing existence. Yuloh enthusiasts will notice that are several to be seen in these shots.

Matthew – love your photos. I am writing a book (fiction) on Vietnam and as it progressed, I ended up using boats more than I had planned (novels often take their own direction). So looking at sites to describe a boat that can ‘sail’ from HCMC down the Saigon to the S.China Sea and up the Mekong tributary to Can Tho and Chau Doc, I found your blue boats.
I also shoot when I can (I spent some time in the Delta, HCMC and Huè in 2006/7. Can you tell me what you were shooting w? I’m still using a Canon 5d with a couple of zooms. What did you use for your harbour shots? Thanks – enjoyed your work. Jim.
