Alan’s well on the way with his new canoe

Alan Stancombe’s nearing the end of his project to build a small open canoe to my stitch and glue Cinderella plans, and a fine job he is making of it. It’s enough to warm the cockles of a designer’s heart.

Plans for the Cinderella are available free  from the intheboatshed.net free boatbuilding plans page.

Norman Fuller’s Ella skiff at the 2010 HHBR meet at Barton Turf

Rowing for Pleasure weblogger Chris Partridge and Norman Fuller demonstrate the Ella skiff under oars and with an electric outboard.

Norman brought his Ella to the 2010 HBBR meeting at Barton Turf, and quite a few of us had some fun with it. These clips show Chris putting the little boat through her paces, while Norman demonstrates the outboard, which is a 12lb model that he has set up with control lines.

Free plans for the Ella skiff can be found on the Free boat plans page of this website – you’ll find a link to the free plans page right at the top of this page.

Shane Mason’s sailing Ella skiff is on its way

Shane Mason in Toronto is busily building the first sailing version of the Ella skiff to a tight deadline and has sent over these shots.

I can report that he particularly enjoyed seeing the shape of the boat come together when he stitched the panels together.

He’s decided to give his deck some camber, which explains why the frames are proud of the sheerline, and has made his mast from pine laminated with carbon fibre.
