Pilot cutter being built by Cem Gür in Turkey

Cem Gür and colleagues at Classic Boat Turkiye continue to be busy – now they’re concentrating their efforts on this 29ft pilot cutter designed by Paul Gartside.

Cem has also promised us some sailing photos of the Thomas Gillmer-designed Blue Moons we have posted about recently – so look out all you Blue Moon fans!

Have you got a project or a story to tell that you’d like to see on intheboatshed.net?  Please email us now at gmatkin@gmail.com .

  1. I have got to build another boat…….

Yes, one of my own designs Gavin. Probably not really like this or the Blue Moon though, although it would have plumb stem, pronounced sheer, transom stern, lots of deck and probably gaff rig.

No, the inspiring thing about these two boats is that they are so beautiful. The idea that human beings – who are usually more intent on building oil refineries and motorway service stations – can create a thing of such beauty and then use it to have even more fun is compelling. In the end it's easier to go ahead and build the boat than be tormented by a dream.

  2. Am I right in thinking that these boats are constructed using a carvel/epoxy construction method? I'd want to know a bit more about that before building (or buying) a boat using that method.

  3. i would like to know if you have any updates to the 29′ gartside cutter? i have these plans as well and will be lofting it this year. i only see the three pictures above, do you have any more progress and i would like to know how well she sails too, thanks.
