Previous years at the Beale Park Boat Show

The Beale Park Boat Show held each year on the Thames near Pangbourne is a treat – a great opportunity to see some beautiful craftsman-built boats and try them out, and also to meet their builders and the people who provide designs, plywood, timber, glue, chandlery and the rest. The show starts today, and lasts all weekend.

You can bet I’ll be there, and in fact we’re planning to arrive on Sunday – let’s hope for great weather for photographs.

You can read more about the garden and the castle itself at the National Trust’s website.

Zanzibar sailing with her new sails on Saturday afternoon

My pal Jim Van Den Bos and I spent Saturday afternoon near our homes at Bewl Water in Kent, England, trying out some new sails kindly sewn up by Jim’s mum for his canoe Zanzibar.

The little boat attracted a lot of attention from fellow small-boat sailors who kept Jim busy for quite a time while I swooped across the water.
