Leo McDermott converts motor fishing vessel Síle A Dó into a ketch

After conversion and before

Leo McDermott has clearly done a wonderful job converting an old MFV into a sailing ketch that many of us would love to own.

I have slightly mixed feelings on the issue, as we all mourn the slow loss of the old fashioned MFVs – but I guess the old Síle probably didn’t have much of a future as she was and the new Síle is such a gem.  Congratulations Leo!

There are many more pictures on Leo’s weblog Síle A Dó.

  1. She’s a beautiful boat and seeing her come together in Hegarty’s certainly played its
part in us undertaking Teal’s restoration.
I’m sure your mixed feelings would be lessened Gavin by the fact she was built by Liam Hegarty’s father and sourced by Liam for Leo to work his magic on.
I got out for a sail with him earlier in the week and it really is a beautiful boat and a credit too him.
