Gena is a fine electric canoe built more than 100 years ago, and restored in the late 1980s by her owner Robin Newlands. All the fittings, equipment and motor are original, except the controller, which was modernised in 1923.

Take a look at the picture links – I took them at the Beale Park Boatshow in 2005, and it’s a privelege to have some good sized images to show you all. Thanks for taking her to the show Mr Newlands, wherever you are – you must be very proud.

Wooden boats by the banks of Milford Haven

Evans Boatwork specialises in building, restoring and repairing wooden craft, and is located close to Milford Marina and the commercial docks at Milford Haven, one of the deepest and most protected harbours in the world. The area is particularly interesting to yachties because it offers cruising in the Bristol Channel and the Irish Sea, and the Cleddau river, which is part of the Pembrokeshire National Park. Evans has a nice little website featuring three of its restoration projects, two of which are of particular interest: a 1960s Shetland skiff and an X boat.

Classics at Lough Erne

Ireland’s three great inland yacht clubs on Loughs Derg, Erne and Ree, came together for the first Waterways Ireland Classic Boat Regatta at Lough Erne Yacht Club on the weekend of September 15th and 16th.

The fleet was clearly splendid, and so was the weather, and from what we can see the photographers had almost as much fun as the people in the boats. Go to the page, scroll down and gaze at the photos, and sigh.
