Pilot Gig Championships, 2016

Read more here. This is fabulous footage, but if you like soundtracks to be in keeping,  you may want to turn this one down…

My thanks to boatbuilder Nick Smith for posting this on his Facebook account. Catch up with some of Nick’s latest stuff here.

  1. Fabulous footage yes – but also criminally irresponsible (and illegal) to fly over people like that. Any concept what a kilogram of plastic, lithium polymer and whirling sharp carbon fibre dropping from 200 metres will do to your hairstyle?. Sorry to be a killjoy – Love the site but this is out of order

    1. I hadn’t thought of that. I’d guess that this is what drone fliers do all the time, isn’t it? I wonder what their ethics are? Do the same ethics apply to companies and organisations? I guess they should…

        1. Got it:

          ‘The aircraft must not be flown:

        2. over or within 150 metres of any congested area
        3. over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;
        4. within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft
        5. within 50 metres of any person except during take-off or landing, the aircraft must not be flown within 30 metres of any person except for the person in charge of the aircraft
        6. That would make quite a lot of what we see illegal…

          Gavin
