Sorry to be so quiet at present – we’re waiting for BT to fix our telephone line, which stopped working around the time of the thunderstorms of the 20th July. I’ve no idea whether the problem is connected with the weather, but it’s making us pretty cross!

Restaurant planning application rejected by Swale councillors
Swale Borough councillors last night rejected the application to turn the Black Building into a restaurant. Well done them, and well done the campaigners.
It’s a great step, but only one of many that need to be made – for Faversham’s sake, a future has to be forged in which the barges and maritime businesses have to be brought back, and the buildings on the site are cared for. Now, how can that be achieved?

Don’t miss these photos – this is a lovely, lovely collection of the early part of Giacomo de Stefano’s Man on the River small boat voyage from London to Istanbul, which he completed a few weeks ago. The boat, an Iain Oughtred-designed Ness Yawl built by Giacomo and friends is now on exhibition in an Istanbul museum.
