The Boat Building Academy’s short course programme for next year is out now… just the thing for someone who needs a big change, or is retiring, or just wants to ‘do it properly’…
Students can ‘build’ good skills by attending consecutive courses (eg, woodworking 1 and 2 and furniture making), and the BBA’s tutors are happy to talk with students about bringing their own boat or plans to work on as part of the courses. Just get in touch to let them know what you want to do.
PS… The September issue of Classic Boat will offer the opportunity to win one a BBA short course.
PPS… My old pal Pete Bromwich did a woodworking one earlier this year, and for his project build himself what sounds like a rather fine hammered dulcimer. Yes, it is perhaps an unusual choice for a project to build at the BBA, but it was a successful one nonetheless. Check the video!

Do you know what the lug sail boat on the BBA flyer is. It is rather nice
I’ve made enquiries – but I would think it was a Whitehall of some kind.
I have an answer from the good folks of the BBA. It’s an 18ft Beach Cruiser built by Reuben Thompson and Tony Corke as part of the September 2013, 38 week course. Here’s the boat’s build diary… http://www.boatbuildingacademy.com/boats/18-beach-cruiser-yawl-rig/
