The construction of a traditional clinker- built Naval boat, as presented in an Admiralty manual of 1923. Check out the groovy pillar supporting the seat!

I think these pages from the Admiralty’s 1937 Manual of Seamanship make up the best quick description of the construction of boats of the time and the names of the various parts I have yet seen. Definitely one to bookmark, I’d say – it could be seriously useful.

  1. I have this book, a mine of info. Father-in-laws copy from his time in the navy, (WW2 HMS Ajax and the Falkland Islands) Interesting section on rigging, the use of tackle and slings and a fold out showing how to anchor a capital ship I think. Must get it out tonight. I have the similar one from 1909, not a lot of difference.
