Betty needs a home

Betty, 1927

Tally Ho

Albert Strange’s Betty, as Tally Ho, won the 1927 Fastnet Race, but today she’s an abandoned motor fishing vessel named Escape, and may be found languishing in the harbour at Brookings, Oregon, according to the swish new Albert Strange Association website.

The original plans, including accommodation details, are available at Mystic Seaport Museum, and if she hasn’t been broken up by the time you see this post she’ll certainly be more than ready for restoration. Whoever takes it up will doubtless find it expensive, but wildly worthwhile.

I’ve been to the wonderful Mystic Seaport Museum and bought plans drawings from their Collections department. From looking at the Collections webpage it seems as if it may be possible to order copies of Strange’s drawings. Now that’s a nice idea for someone’s birthday or Christmas…
