Who can save Iwunda?

Iwunda Iwunda

A friend of a friend recently sent us these photos in the hope that they might just attract the attention of someone with the energy, vision and means to bring this famous old yacht back to spanking sailing health.

Iwunda was built in 1929 and is 34ft on deck and 40ft overall. Built for the East Coast and the Thames Estuary, she has a lifting keel, giving her a maximum draft of 6ft and a minimum draft of just 2ft. She’s the kind of boat that will attract attention anywhere, but she’s also well known as the yacht owned by Jack Cootes who wrote the book East Coast Rivers.

  1. tim, judith, will and ed marsden bought iwunda in january 2007. she is now being renovated in a barn in north bedfordshire. we are trying to find her sister ship jasmine.

  2. Hi Tim and Judith,

I was thinking about Iwunda and scanning through some photos of her the other day and wondered how the restoration was progressing. If you would like any copies of the photos please contact me.

  3. Dear Colin and Friends.

I've found Jasmine in Northern France in the good hands.

Iwunda progress is slow due to lack of funds, but she is safe and being well looked after.

Any ideas of funding would be most welcome.

    Yours sincerely,

    Tim Jude Will and ED

  4. I think that those pics were part of a series that I took at Brightlingsea in Sept 06. I have 47 more of details of exterior and interior. As you acquired her in Jan 07 they may not tell you any more than you already know. I could send you samples if you wish. – Bob

  5. Have you talked to Classic Boat mag about funding; they may be able to point you at sources. She might be eligible as a small craft with a historic past. I am so pleased that she is being preserved; I know full well how long these things take, don't I Gavin!? Good luck – Bob
