Amsterdam harbour, 1919

I particularly like the bit at the end where the cameraman takes us along waterways into the town. My thanks to Hans-Christian Rieck for passing this one along!

  1. This reminds me that when the Dutch invaded what is now Indonesia in the 17th c. they built a town along the lines of Amsterdam – Batavia now part of Jakarta. – complete with canals and tall thin houses – anything to feel at home in a foreign country I guess. Unfortunately the static canals proved to be an ideal breeding ground for malaria carrying mosquitoes. Now with global-warming it is a moot point as to whether the canals of Amsterdam might also suffer the same fate.
