		<description>HI Gav, on the subject of form and function I could not help noticing the similarities of the Viking longship and the Orchid Island ocean going canoes in the previous posting. I must  research the antecedents of the Viking ships to see if there was a development from a canoe like structure into larger planked boats, a fairly logical process from our view but maybe not from theirs. I guess available materials would have a strong influence on this too.
