The letter-writers who wanted to join solo circumnavigator Alain Gerbault

Alain Gerbault portrait

When he arrived at New York, solo circumnavigator Alain Gerbault received many letters from people who wished to sail with him in his narrow and old-fashioned yacht.

In an experimental first reading for intheboatshed.net, Julie Arnott reads a short passage from Gerbault’s book about the arguments they presented. Clearly none prevailed for a few years later he finished his long voyage tout seul.

Please let us know at gmatkin@gmail.com if you enjoy this reading – if you do, we’ll put up some more, perhaps with a variety of voices.

There is a splendid article about Gerbault here.
