Raid Finland revisited
Dick Wynne’s comment referring to Raid Finland prompted me to take a peek at the RF site, where I found his account account of taking part in Raid Finland 2003 in his 15ft canoe yawl Bunny:
A bundle of photos of the boats that took part that year can be found at the Raid Finland site, and a fine and very varied collection they are.
In his article, Dick says that shipping Bunny to Finland and back four years ago cost a whacking £900, but from the RF site I notice that there are several suitable boats available for hire for the event at reasonable prices. Wrap that up with a discount airfare or two, and the event begins to seem achievable.
The splendid magazine Watercraft published an article on Raid Finland some time ago:
The Raid Finland website is here:

Finally, I’d like to say thank you to Dick Wynne for leading me back to the Raid Finland site.

Gavin, I’ve been looking @ the raid finland site a lot lately and it’s nice to see it on your blog. I’ve been thinking about why isn’t there a raid in the eastern US, and thinking Chesapeake Bay…if anyone out there has some ideas..’
I would also love to gather some info on the Kleiner Kerl (1st photo on the left). I know she’s an arendal sjekte and thats about all, except that she’s from Germany and was built in (I believe) Norway.
Any additinal info greatly appreciated.

Tom –
Thanks for your enquiry.
I’m sure Chesapeake Bay has more than enough sailing and rowing enthusiasts to make something like this very successful.
If anyone can help Tom track down more information on the boat he asks about, please contact me at gmatkin@gmail.com, and I’ll pass the relevant information, contact details etc along.
